What does a chatter at an OnlyFans agency do?
A chatter answers fan messages in the creator's name, builds conversations and sells paid content along the way, such as PPV messages (pay-per-view, content fans unlock individually) or custom requests. Fans usually do not know they are not talking to the creator herself.
Reuters looked at what this looks like in practice in 2024 1:
- Chatters often work from the Philippines, from low-wage countries in Europe or from parts of the US.
- They use software such as Infloww, which stores notes on every fan, for example his job, his pet and his purchase history. Some simply log in with the creator's password.
- They work from prewritten conversation scripts and handle 5 to 20 fans at the same time.
- Pay was $800 to $1,000 a month, for 7 to 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
VICE reported in 2023 on eight-hour shifts covering three to four inboxes at once, with wages sometimes as low as £250 to £500 a month 2. In an undercover investigation in 2025, SRF found that chatters are typically paid a small commission on sales or $2 to $5 an hour 3.
Do OnlyFans creators actually message you?
Sometimes, but often not. Many creators who work with an agency hand their inbox to paid chatters, and according to Reuters and SRF this is usually not disclosed to fans 13. Some creators write every message themselves, and some get help only at certain times of day.
There is no way for a fan to tell from the outside. Reuters found that chatters sometimes deny it when a fan asks directly whether he is really talking to the creator 1. That is one of the reasons the practice has ended up in court in the US (see below).
Why do agencies use chatters at all?
Because a large share of the money on OnlyFans is earned in conversation, not through the subscription. According to the annual accounts of the operating company, Fenix International, for the 2025 financial year, only about 27% of revenue came from subscriptions and about 73% from PPV, messages and tips 4.
Answering messages takes time, often more than a single creator has next to content, marketing and the rest of her life. Agencies solve that with teams who write around the clock. For the creator, that can be a real relief. It also means other people are having very personal conversations in her name. You can read more about the role of messages in revenue in What is PPV on OnlyFans?.
What is the problem with agency chatting?
The problem is not that someone helps. It is how. The investigations show four recurring problems.
Lying about content. According to Reuters, old content gets sold as "new" or "custom", meaning made specifically for that fan. When a fan asks whether he is really talking to the creator, chatters deny it, change the subject or make him feel guilty 1.
Pressure on emotional weak spots. In its investigation, SRF describes manipulative conversation techniques used to push men into buying again and again 3. A Swiss agency owner with 20 models told SRF that the customer does not care who writes back 3.
Data protection. According to Reuters, intimate messages and the real names of fans travel back and forth between chatters and agencies. One chatter put screenshots of conversations in her résumé 1.
Your boundaries. Whoever writes in your name can promise or sell things you never wanted. The BBC reported in 2026 on creators who were pressured into producing content they had refused 5.
On top of that, under the OnlyFans Terms of Service you remain responsible for everything that happens on your account, even when someone helps you 6.
Is it allowed for an agency to chat for you?
OnlyFans does not ban help with running an account, but it makes the creator responsible for everything that happens on it 6. We did not find an explicit ban on third parties writing in the creator's name in the text of the terms (version "Last updated: August 2024"). Some agency blogs claim the opposite but give no evidence 7.
Two points are unclear, and you should keep an eye on them:
- Under the terms, AI-generated content must be labeled, for example with #ai 6. Whether AI chatbots may reply on their own is not addressed explicitly in the terms we read. The claim that a human always has to press "send" comes only from tool vendors.
- Media reports mention a new version of the terms in fall 2026 that could affect data-collection tools and similar software. That is not confirmed 8.
Do agencies use AI chatbots on OnlyFans?
Some tools and agencies advertise AI chat assistants, and there is no clear OnlyFans rule we can point to that settles whether a bot may answer fans on its own 6. What the terms do require is that AI-generated content is labeled 6.
At maevia the answer is simple: no AI in fan chats, ever. Every message is written by a real person on our team, in your tone and within the boundaries you set. Whatever agency you talk to, ask the question directly and get the answer in writing.
What about the lawsuits in the US?
In the US, several fans who feel deceived by chatters have filed lawsuits. The current status is not fully clear, so we summarize what is documented and flag what is still open.
- N.Z. et al. v. Fenix International et al., case no. 8:24-cv-01655, filed on July 29, 2024, in a federal court in California. The suit names the company behind OnlyFans and several agencies. The allegation: paid chatters posed as creators and exploited emotional attachment 9.
- In December 2025 the court dismissed the complaint in that form but allowed the plaintiffs to amend it 12. According to Mealey's and Bloomberg Law in May 2026, Fenix, the operator, was then dismissed from the case. A claim against the agencies over sharing personal data reportedly remained 1013.
- According to our research, another lawsuit (Brunner/Fry) followed in April 2025. We have not seen a ruling in that case 11.
- Reuters also reported on a class action filed in Illinois in August 2023 over chatter deception 1.
Fenix explicitly lists US class actions as a risk in its own annual accounts 4.
The cases show two things: deception in chatting can end up in court, and when it comes to fan data, the agencies are the ones under scrutiny. What this means for you if you live in Germany, Austria or Switzerland is a question for a local lawyer.
Which chatting rules should you set?
If someone writes in your name, you set the rules, and you put them in writing. At a minimum, cover these points:
- Personality and tone: How do you talk, which topics are private, which words would you never use?
- Boundaries: Which content does not exist from you, which requests get turned down, what is never promised?
- Honest selling: Old content is never sold as new or custom.
- No manipulation: No invented emergencies, no exploiting loneliness or compulsive spending, no false promises of a real relationship. Warning signs that a fan is becoming dependent are taken seriously 11.
- Data protection: Who can see the chats, where are fan notes stored, who has access, what gets deleted? No screenshots outside of work.
- AI: Whether and how AI tools are used is your decision. (At maevia, fan chats are written by humans only.)
- Visibility: You can read along at any time.
- Disclosure: Think about whether you want to tell fans that a team helps, for example with a short note in your profile.
These rules also belong in the contract.
What should you ask an agency about chatting?
Ask specific questions before you sign. A trustworthy agency answers them without dodging:
- Who chats: employed team members, freelancers or AI?
- Where are the chatters based, and how are they paid and trained?
- How many fans does one person handle at the same time?
- How does the team learn your personality and your boundaries?
- Can you see every chat at any time?
- Which software is used, and where is fan data stored?
- What happens to the data if you leave the agency?
- What happens if a chatter breaks your rules?

All answers as a list
Do fans know they are texting with a chatter?
Usually not. According to Reuters and SRF, chatting is generally not disclosed in the industry, and chatters sometimes deny it when asked 13.
How much does an OnlyFans chatter earn?
Figures vary widely. Reuters reports $800 to $1,000 a month, with very good chatters earning up to $3,000 1. SRF reports a small commission on sales or $2 to $5 an hour 3.
Can an agency use AI chatbots?
AI-generated content must be labeled on OnlyFans 6. We cannot point to a clear rule on chatbots that reply on their own. Whether AI writes in your name should always be your decision and should be in the contract. At maevia, fan chats are written by real people only.
Can I do the chatting myself?
Yes. Many creators write their own messages or get support only at certain times. It takes time, but it gives you full control over tone and boundaries.
