This guide is for creators who want to close their OnlyFans page for good. If you are a fan and only want to cancel subscriptions, the steps below about payouts, records and taxes don't apply to you.
Whether you are stopping because you reached your goal, because you are exhausted or because your life has changed: the steps are the same.
How do I know it's time to quit OnlyFans?
When the reasons against it consistently outweigh the reasons for it. Typical signs are ongoing exhaustion, boundaries that keep slipping, a new life situation or a goal you have reached. Berlin creator Yma Nowak quit, according to the German broadcaster hessenschau, because the closeness of subscribers became too much and fans wanted to meet her 1. In a survey of creators, 37% had already thought about quitting (Billion Dollar Boy 2025, not specific to OnlyFans) 2.
If you are exhausted, a planned break can also be an option. See Burnout as a creator. If you can, make the final decision with some distance, not in the worst moment.
In what order should I quit OnlyFans?
First you secure your money and records, then you delete. If you delete first, you may lose access to statements you will need later.
| Step | What | Why in this order |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Withdraw your balance | After deletion, access is unclear |
| 2 | Export statements and statistics | For your tax return and your records |
| 3 | End your agency contract, revoke access | Nobody should keep posting after you |
| 4 | Inform fans (optional) | A fair goodbye, fewer questions |
| 5 | Sort out your subscription price and renewals | No new payments after your end date |
| 6 | Delete the account | Only once everything is secured |
| 7 | Clarify deregistration with the tax office or a tax adviser | Closing your self-employment |
| 8 | Inform your health insurer and other offices | Clarify your status |
| 9 | Reduce your traces online | Takes longest, keeps running in parallel |
How do I delete my OnlyFans creator account properly?
First withdraw your balance, save your records, then delete the account in your settings. According to a German agency guide, you should withdraw your balance before deleting, keep running subscriptions in mind and save your tax records 3.
Before that, take care of:
- Payout: wait until all earnings have been released. According to the terms of service, chargebacks from fans can still be deducted later 4. More in Chargebacks, scams and fake fans.
- Statements: download payout overviews and statements where possible and store them outside OnlyFans.
- Your own content: if you want to keep the originals, they are hopefully already with you. Think about whether you want to keep them at all, and where: encrypted and separate from your everyday devices.
- Your data at OnlyFans: ask support which of your data is removed after deletion and which is kept.
If you work with an agency: give written notice, then change your password and revoke all access. Clarify what happens to chat histories, fan data and your content held by the agency.
Informing fans is not required. A short message is fair, though, and stops fans from continuing to send messages: "I'm closing my account on November 30. Thank you for the time together." No reasons, no new channel where people can reach you.
What about taxes, health insurance and other offices?
What you need to deregister and how long you have to keep your records is best clarified with the tax office or a tax adviser in your country. In Germany, retention periods are set out in § 147 of the Fiscal Code (Abgabenordnung) 89. Keep your statements safe and encrypted, because they show how you earned your money.
The formalities depend on whether you live in Germany, Austria or Switzerland:
| Where you live | What closing typically involves |
|---|---|
| Germany, Austria, Switzerland | deregistering your business or self-employment and the related tax registration; ask your tax office or a tax adviser, because the steps differ between the three countries |
Also let your health insurer know that your situation is changing. How you are insured afterwards is something to clarify with them.
Think of these offices too, if they knew about your work: student finance, the job center or unemployment office, child benefit, private insurers, and your bank if you run a business account. If you published a legal notice (in Germany, an Impressum), for example on a link page, take it offline once the page is gone.
How do I reduce my traces online?
You delete what belongs to you, report what others uploaded and check again regularly. Content that has been copied usually can't be made to disappear completely. Much of it can be removed or made hard to find, though.
What belongs to you:
- Delete promo accounts on Instagram, TikTok, X and Reddit. On Reddit, it's worth deleting posts individually first.
- Close link pages like Linktree, your own website, fan channels on Telegram or Discord.
- Delete the email address for your creator account last, because you need it for deletion confirmations.
What others uploaded: leaks follow the same routes as in the leak emergency plan: report to the platform, file a copyright notice through the platform's form, submit Google removal requests, and use StopNCII for intimate images. StopNCII creates hashes from your images without uploading the images themselves, and partner platforms use them to block uploads 5.
Search engines: in the EU, Google offers a form to request that results for your name are no longer shown. That doesn't delete the page, but it makes it harder to find.
Face search: services like PimEyes can find matches for a person from a photo, including through tattoos and scars 6. Whether and how you can have results blocked there is something to check directly with the provider.
Self-check every few months: search for your stage name, your real name combined with your stage name, and do a reverse image search with a typical photo. Note findings in a spreadsheet and work through them.
If the fear of being found weighs on you, an honest assessment helps: a reported case of a teacher shows that a former account can surface at the next employer 7. At the same time, very few people search deliberately.
How do I explain OnlyFans on my resume?
You describe the period honestly and factually as self-employment, without revealing more than necessary. Don't invent a job that didn't exist. At the same time, you don't have to name the platform.
Possible wording, depending on what you actually did:
- "Self-employed: digital content creation and community management"
- "Self-employed content creator: production, social media marketing, customer communication, bookkeeping"
- "Self-employed, online media"
These phrases are true if they describe your work. During this time you built skills many employers look for: planning and producing content, building an audience, communicating with customers, analysing numbers, running your own business.
In a job interview, a short answer is usually enough: "I was self-employed for a few years, creating and marketing digital content. Now I'd like to work in a team again." Prepare one sentence so the question doesn't catch you off guard.

All answers as a list
Can I restore my deleted OnlyFans account?
As far as we know, that is not reliably possible and depends on OnlyFans. If you are unsure, take a break first instead of deleting right away.
Is my content deleted when I delete my account?
On OnlyFans itself it should no longer be visible. Copies, screenshots and leaks outside the platform remain until you report them one by one. That is why searching for traces is part of quitting.
Can I start again later?
Yes. You can open a new account; verification then runs again.
A goodbye without pressure
