Can you be completely anonymous on OnlyFans?
No. OnlyFans and your bank always know your legal name. What you can control is how easily fans, people you know or strangers can link your account to you as a person.
Before you are allowed to sell content, you upload a photo ID and a selfie holding that ID to OnlyFans, and you must be at least 18 6. So the honest way to look at it is this:
| Who | Knows your legal name? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| OnlyFans | Yes | through ID verification |
| Your bank or payment provider | Yes | payouts go to your account |
| Fans on OnlyFans | No, unless you tell them | a stage name is enough |
| Strangers online | No, as long as nothing leaks | this is where the measures below come in |
What you have to register for tax, and whether you need a public business address or legal notice on your channels, depends on the country you live in. Check with your tax office, a tax adviser or a lawyer where you live.
Privacy is not a switch you flip once. It is a set of decisions you keep making.
Can you do OnlyFans without showing your face?
In principle, yes. The platform does not require fans to see your face, and some creators work that way. In a study presented at the USENIX Security Symposium in 2024, 10 of the 43 creators interviewed deliberately hid their face 1.
To be honest, though, this route has limits:
- Less closeness. On OnlyFans, fans pay for the feeling of knowing a specific person. Without your face, the strongest tool for that is missing. There are no independent figures comparing earnings with and without a face, but our view is clear: building trust and revenue gets harder.
- No real protection. Your body, your voice and your surroundings stay recognizable. More on that below.
- Leaks are still an issue. Copied content turns up on other sites whether or not your face is in it.

Why do creators at maevia show their face?
Because fans pay for a real person. At maevia, creators show their face, and that is exactly why we take protecting their privacy seriously.
Showing your face does not mean showing everything. What else you show and where your limits are is your decision. We keep your legal name, where you live and your personal data out of it. How to set those limits is covered in Setting boundaries.
What does a stage name actually do?
A stage name separates your profile from your legal name, and that is the foundation for everything else. But it only protects you if it is not linked to you anywhere.
In the USENIX study, 16 of 43 participants deliberately used a stage name. Even more of them, 22, kept their identities strictly separate 1. Those two findings fit together: the name alone is not enough.
What to watch for:
- No link to you. No school nickname, no part of your real name, no birth year, no hint at your hometown.
- No username you already use. If you already use the name for a gaming or shopping account, a simple search will find the connection.
- Kept apart from private profiles. Your creator name never appears on your private Instagram, and your private name never appears on your creator channels.

Can you block your location on OnlyFans with geoblocking?
Yes, geoblocking hides your profile from visitors in countries you choose. Its limit depends on where you live: in most countries you can only block the whole country, not your city.
According to a guide from the tool vendor SirenCY (October 2026), which refers to the OnlyFans help center, you find the feature in your settings under "Privacy and safety". There are three levels 3:
- by country, for example all of Germany, Austria or Switzerland,
- by state or province, according to the source only in a few countries outside Europe, not in Germany, Austria or Switzerland,
- by IP address, meaning individual connections or address ranges.
What that means for you: blocking Germany, Austria or Switzerland also blocks a large share of your potential fans there, including the English-speaking ones. It can make more sense to block a country you do not live in but where many people know you, for example because you grew up there or have family there.
What geoblocking does not protect against: VPNs, people traveling to countries you have not blocked, leaks on other sites and promotion on X, Reddit or Instagram. It is a filter against chance discoveries, not protection against someone who is actively looking for you.
What do your background and metadata give away?
Often more than your face. Anyone who wants to connect your profile to where you live will look at your surroundings and at the hidden data in your files.
Face recognition online is real. Back in 2020, netzpolitik.org showed that the search engine PimEyes can return matches with names and jobs from a single photo 4. According to Spektrum der Wissenschaft, these systems also analyze tattoos and scars 5. That makes it all the more important that your face only appears on your creator channels and never next to your legal name.
What to keep out of the frame:
- the view out of the window, street signs, license plates, mail with your address on it
- furniture, wall art or bedding that also appears on your private profile
- mirrors and windows that show more than you want
- pets people know from your private profile
The easiest fix is a neutral background: your own corner or a shooting location that does not appear anywhere else.
Then there is metadata. Photos taken on a smartphone can contain the date, the device type and often the GPS location. Whether OnlyFans and other platforms strip this data on upload is not documented in the sources we checked. So turn off location access for your camera app and remove metadata before uploading; many photo editors can do this on export. And never post live from a place where you are right now.
Who sees your verification data?
OnlyFans, not your fans. Your ID and selfie from verification are used to check that you are an adult and the person on the ID. They do not appear on your profile. Fans see your stage name, not your legal name and not your address. The process and common problems are explained in OnlyFans verification.
Do watermarks and leak protection stop leaks?
They cannot prevent leaks, but they limit the damage. A watermark shows where a piece of content came from and can help trace a leak. It shows your stage name or your profile address, never your legal name.
In the USENIX study, 14 of 43 participants used watermarks. Overall, the participants considered leaks practically unavoidable 1. That sounds harsh, but it is honest. What matters is finding leaks quickly and getting them removed with a DMCA takedown notice, a formal copyright removal request to the site or its host. At maevia, our leak protection handles that. If you have just found a leak, the leak emergency plan walks you through the first steps.
How do you prevent doxxing and stalking?
Doxxing means someone publishes your private details, such as your legal name, address, employer or family, to hurt you 78. The best prevention is keeping your identities separate:
- a separate email address used only for work, with two-factor login
- a separate phone number you never use privately
- separate devices, or at least separate browser profiles
- a separate bank account for income and expenses
- never your legal name or your real city in chats with fans, not even after months
Research shows why this matters so much: because OnlyFans itself brings you little reach, you promote yourself elsewhere. Every additional platform raises the risk that work and private life collide. Researchers call this "context collapse" 2. In the USENIX study, every participant had taken at least one protective step before they started 1. So you are not being overcautious if you do the same.
Also check regularly what is out there about you: a reverse image search with your photos, and searches for your stage name and your legal name, separately and together. If you are threatened or someone spreads your address: save evidence, do not reply, report it to the platform and go to the police. All the steps and the support services in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are in Stalking and doxxing.
Should you tell your family?
That is your decision, and there is no answer that is right for everyone. But keep this in mind: if you show your face, someone who knows you may recognize you. A secret can become leverage, for example when someone threatens to tell your family. How that kind of blackmail works and what to do is covered in Sextortion and blackmail.
If you want to tell the people who matter to you, choose a calm moment and be open about how you protect yourself. How parents can handle the news is described in Our daughter is on OnlyFans.
Which measure protects against what?
Here is everything at a glance. The right-hand column matters just as much as the middle one.
| Measure | Helps against | Does not help against |
|---|---|---|
| Stage name | random name searches | people who recognize you |
| Geoblocking | chance discoveries from blocked countries or states | VPNs, travel, leaks, promotion on other platforms |
| Neutral background | clues to where you live | features on you yourself |
| Removing metadata | location from photos | anything visible in the image itself |
| Watermarks and leak protection | content spreading without a source, leaks staying online | copying as such |
| Separate identities | links via email, phone number, bank account | leaks by people who know you |

Does OnlyFans see my real name?
Yes. You upload an ID and a selfie for verification. Your fans do not see your real name, though, unless you show it yourself.
Do I have to show my face at maevia?
Yes. Fans pay for a real person. What else you show is your decision, and we keep your legal name, where you live and your personal data out of it.
Can I block just my city on OnlyFans?
Not according to the available guides. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, geoblocking only works for the whole country. According to the source, blocking individual states or provinces is only possible in a few countries outside Europe 3.
Does a VPN help my own privacy?
18 of 43 participants in the USENIX study used a VPN to reduce their own traces 1. It hides your IP address from websites. It does not help against being linked through images, names or people you know.
