Many beginners get stuck at exactly this first step. The same questions come up again and again in forums: Why is my account not being approved? Why does OnlyFans want a second document? Can I verify without showing my face? This article answers them as far as public sources allow.
A note up front: the OnlyFans Help Center could not be retrieved automatically for our research 2. Anything we could not back up from the terms of service or reputable sources is marked as such.
How does OnlyFans verification work?
You upload a government ID and confirm with a selfie or a live recording that you are the person on the ID. Based on creators' experience and agency guides, the process looks like this 56:
- Create an account with an email address and password. Ideally use a separate email just for OnlyFans, with two-factor authentication.
- Open the creator section, usually through the bank account settings or "Become a creator".
- Enter your personal details: full name, date of birth, address, country. These must match your ID exactly.
- Photograph your ID: front and, if needed, back.
- Confirm your face: a selfie holding your ID or a live recording where you move your head. Which method applies has changed over the years.
- Wait for the review.
After that, you add your bank account and your tax details so you can get paid. That is a separate step, which we explain in OnlyFans payouts.
Which documents work? Guides name a passport, a driver's license or a national ID card 56. Whether every country's driver's license is accepted, and whether there are restrictions for residence permits, we could not verify.
Why do I have to verify on OnlyFans?
Because OnlyFans has to make sure that every creator is an adult and really the person they claim to be. The platform is under scrutiny here: in March 2025 the UK media regulator Ofcom fined Fenix, the company behind OnlyFans, £1.05 million for giving inaccurate information about its age checks 3. On top of that come the rules of the card networks, which require proof of age and consent from platforms with adult content 4.
Verification has two consequences for you:
- You are not anonymous towards OnlyFans. Fans see your creator name. OnlyFans knows your real name, your date of birth and your face.
- No verification, no income. Only after verification can you set prices and request payouts.
The minimum age is 18 1. Under 18 there is no way onto the platform, and there should not be one. Anyone under 18 who is asked whether they want to "get started early" is dealing with someone they should not trust.
How long does OnlyFans verification take?
According to agency guides, usually one to two days, longer in individual cases 56. As far as we know, OnlyFans has not published an official timeframe.
It typically takes longer when:
- your application is reviewed manually,
- OnlyFans asks for another document,
- you have changed and resubmitted your details several times.
If nothing happens after a few days, ask support instead of uploading again and again. Several applications in a short time are more likely to look suspicious than to help.
Why was my OnlyFans verification rejected?
Usually for formal reasons you can fix yourself. According to reports, OnlyFans does not always say exactly why. The most common causes according to guides and forums 567:
| Reason for rejection | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Photo is blurry, has glare or is too dark | Shoot in daylight, without flash, with the ID lying flat on a dark surface |
| Edges cut off | All four corners must be visible; do not cover anything with your fingers |
| ID has expired | Use a valid document. An expired ID is not proof |
| Details do not match | Enter your name, date of birth and address exactly as they appear on your ID, including middle names and special characters such as accents or umlauts |
| Face not recognizable | No sunglasses, hat, heavy filter or mask. Your face and the ID both need to be sharp at the same time |
| Selfie and ID photo look very different | A very old ID photo can cause problems. A second, more recent document can help |
| Edited images | No beauty apps, no cropping with filters. The photo must be unedited |
"My address is marked in red": this question comes up on gutefrage.net, a large German Q&A site 7. Often the format is the problem, such as apartment or house number suffixes, the postal code or special characters. Try the spelling exactly as it appears on your ID or on an official document that shows your address.
Why a second document? Sometimes OnlyFans asks for further proof, for example if the first document was hard to read or the details could not be matched clearly. According to forum experience, this is not a penalty either, just a follow-up check.
Can I verify on OnlyFans without showing my face?
No. You have to show your face to OnlyFans, otherwise there is no way to check that you are the person on the ID. The selfie is only for the review, though, not for your profile.
What you show your fans is up to you. Some creators work without showing their face, but that protects less than many people think. At maevia, creators show their face and protect their privacy with a creator name, separate accounts and blocked regions. What is possible without a face and how to protect yourself with one is covered in OnlyFans without showing your face and Privacy on OnlyFans.
One question you should still ask yourself: are you comfortable giving a company in London your ID and your face? For most people it is not a problem, since banks run similar checks. It is still a conscious decision, and it belongs in your self-check before you start.
Can I verify with someone else's ID?
No, never. Signing up with someone else's documents breaks the terms of service 1 and risks your account being suspended and your balance withheld.
Typical situations in which this question comes up 7:
- Your boyfriend wants the account in his name. Then the account and the money belong to him, not to you. If the relationship ends, you are left without access. And if you are the person in the content, your identity has to be verified anyway.
- You are under 18 and want to "get a head start". That is not possible, and any workaround is a serious problem, including for the person who hands over their ID.
- An agency offers to provide a "ready-made" account. That is a clear red flag. Serious management works in your own account, verified in your name. More in OnlyFans agency red flags.
Bought or borrowed accounts are not a shortcut. They are the opposite of what protects you in the long run.
What applies if other people appear in my content?
Every person who can be seen in your content must be an adult, must have consented and must be verifiably identified. Under the terms of service you need written consent and proof of age for this 1. On OnlyFans, that usually means the person has their own verified account or is registered through a release form with their ID.
That applies to couples too.
Do I have to verify again later?
Possibly. Some agency blogs report a regular re-check by live recording, but no official basis for it has been found so far 8. What is certain: OnlyFans can ask for proof again if something looks unusual, for example if your name, your country or your bank account changes.
So keep your ID valid and your details up to date. If your ID is about to expire, get a new one in good time so that a re-check does not block your payouts. If your account gets suspended anyway, the first steps are in OnlyFans account banned.

All answers as a list
Do I have to verify if I only want to watch?
No, ID verification applies to creators who want to earn money. In some countries fans have to prove their age, but that is a different process. This article is for creators.
Will my fans see my real name?
No, fans only see your creator name and your profile. Your real name is known to OnlyFans and, where required, to the authorities.
Why does OnlyFans keep asking for face ID?
Usually because the earlier check failed or something changed. A blurry selfie, a mismatch with your ID photo or changes to your name, country or bank account can trigger a new check. Reports of a fixed yearly re-verification have no official basis we could find 8.
What do I do if I keep getting rejected?
Go through the checklist above point by point, especially whether your name and address match. Then write to support, briefly describe what you have already tried and ask for the specific reason. Paid "verification services" are not a solution.
Does OnlyFans need my tax ID?
For payouts, OnlyFans asks for tax details; according to agency guides, this happens before your first payout 5. For creators living in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, the form behind this is usually the W-8BEN, a form of the US tax authority for individuals outside the US 9. It is not a US Social Security number. What you have to declare at home is best clarified with your tax office or a tax adviser in your country. More in OnlyFans payouts.
Can I verify if I live abroad?
In principle yes, OnlyFans is available in many countries. What matters is a valid document and details that match where you actually live. What you need to register in your country of residence is best clarified with your tax office or a tax adviser.
Should I worry about privacy when I verify?
You are handing sensitive data to a company in the UK, outside the EU. If you are unsure, read the privacy policy before you start.
Before you go
Verification is the least exciting step on OnlyFans, but it decides whether you can start at all. Take half an hour, take clean photos and do not enter anything that is not exactly on your ID. maevia works with English-speaking creators who live in Germany, Austria or Switzerland and write native-level English.
