The security side of this topic, meaning what a stage name, geoblocking and removing metadata actually achieve, is covered in detail in Can you stay anonymous on OnlyFans? This article is about the question many people ask first: does my face have to be visible?
Can you do OnlyFans without showing your face?
Yes, technically you can. There is no rule that says you have to show your face in your posts. Some creators work that way, others show it only partly, for example with a mask.
There is one exception: verification. To be allowed to sell content, you upload an ID and a selfie. So OnlyFans knows your face; your fans don't see that data. The process and the typical problems are explained in OnlyFans verification.
Promotion platforms can also require your face. Some Reddit communities only verify with a photo. Each community decides that for itself; see Promoting OnlyFans on Reddit.
And an honest point up front: hiding your face doesn't make you anonymous. In a study presented at the USENIX Security conference (2024) with 43 creators, 10 deliberately hid their face, but almost all of them relied on further protective measures as well 1. A hidden face is one layer, not a shield.
Do faceless OnlyFans creators make money?
Nobody can give you a serious number for that. There is no independent data comparing creators with and without their face. Rankings in which "faceless" sometimes comes out on top and sometimes at the bottom come from vendor blogs and contradict each other 2.
What can be said: OnlyFans runs on closeness. Fans don't just pay for pictures, they pay for the feeling of knowing a specific person. Your face is the strongest tool for that. Without it, you have to create that feeling some other way, through text, voice and chat, and in our experience that succeeds much less often. That's why we expect lower income without a face, even though it can't be proven in percentages.
How much is realistic on OnlyFans overall is covered in How much do OnlyFans creators make?
What does working without your face cost you?
Mostly time, reach and trust. The costs show up in four places.
Production. Every shot has to be set up so your face isn't in it, including in mirrors, windows or dark screens. One second of your face in a video is enough for a screenshot.
Reach. On Instagram and TikTok, where your face and personality on camera matter, you have a much harder time. That rules out exactly the channels where many creators find new fans. Which channel works for what is covered in Which traffic source suits you?
Trust. Fans want to know who they're talking to. Without a face, trust grows more slowly, and some fans stay skeptical about whether there's a real person behind the profile at all.
Requests for your face. Fans will ask, and some will offer a lot of money. Once you've sent a picture of your face, you can't take it back. How to set and keep your boundaries is covered in Setting boundaries on OnlyFans.
What's off the table completely: other people's faces or AI-generated faces presented as yours. That deceives fans and very likely breaks the platform's rules.
Are you really unrecognizable without your face?
No. Your body, your voice and your surroundings stay recognizable, and online face search also matches tattoos and scars, according to Spektrum der Wissenschaft 3. Back in 2020, netzpolitik.org showed that the search engine PimEyes can return matches with a name and job from a single photo 4.
The most common giveaways, with or without a face:
| Feature | Risk | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Tattoos, birthmarks, scars | high, face search also matches tattoos 3 | decide deliberately what you show, and post none of it on private profiles |
| Voice | high with people who know you | use it deliberately and know that people you know will recognize it |
| Rooms, furniture, bedding | high if they also appear on your private profile | a dedicated corner or shooting location that is never seen anywhere else |
| View from the window, mirrors, pets | medium to high | check before every shoot |
| Metadata in photos | high, GPS data can reveal where you live | turn off your camera's location, strip metadata before uploading |
And leaks happen without a face too. In the USENIX study, 24 of 43 participants reported leaks 1. A hidden face doesn't undo copied content.
Why do creators at maevia show their face?
Because fans pay for a real person. At maevia, creators show their face, and we build protection of their privacy in from the start.
Showing your face doesn't mean showing everything. What else you show and where your boundaries lie is your decision. We keep your real name, where you live and your personal data out of it.
How do you protect your privacy when you show your face?
With a clear work identity: a name, a shooting location and channels that exist only for OnlyFans and are never linked to your private life. The key building blocks:
- A stage name with no link to your real name, your year of birth or where you live.
- Separate accounts: your own email address with two-factor login, your own phone number, your own social media profiles, ideally your own devices or browser profiles.
- Geoblocking: block countries or regions where a lot of people know you. What that achieves and where its limits are is covered in Can you stay anonymous on OnlyFans?
- A neutral shooting location: no windows, no mail, no furniture from your private photos.
- No location data: strip metadata, never post live from where you are right now.
- Verification data stays with OnlyFans: your ID and selfie don't appear on your profile; fans only see your stage name.
- Leak protection: watermarks with your stage name and an ongoing search for leaked content with DMCA takedown requests. At maevia, leak protection is included in management. For an emergency, there's the OnlyFans leak emergency plan.
- Precautions against doxxing and stalking: never your real name or real city in a chat, and check regularly what can be found about you online. Everything else is in Stalking and doxxing.
What if you're afraid of being recognized?
Then take that fear seriously before you start, not afterward. Showing your face is a one-way decision: what has been visible once may have been copied.
Ask yourself three questions first: who in your life should know, and who must never find out? What would happen if someone from your circle recognized you? And have you thought through the consequences for the next five to ten years? Help with these questions is in Is OnlyFans worth it? 12 honest questions.
Some creators decide to tell their family or close friends. Otherwise, a secret can become leverage; see Sextortion and blackmail. How parents can deal with it is described in Our daughter is on OnlyFans.
If, after these questions, you realize you don't want to show your face under any circumstances, that's a legitimate decision. In that case, working with maevia isn't the right fit for you, and that's okay.

All answers as a list
Do I have to show my face on OnlyFans?
The platform doesn't require it toward fans. For verification, though, you upload an ID and a selfie, so OnlyFans knows your face. At maevia, creators also show their face on their profile, because fans pay for a real person.
Can you make money on OnlyFans without showing your face?
Yes, it's possible. There are no reliable comparison figures. In our assessment, it is much harder to build closeness, trust and therefore revenue without your face.
Does a faceless profile protect me from leaks?
No. Content can be copied and spread without a face too, and features such as tattoos or rooms can still make you recognizable. What helps against leaks are watermarks, an ongoing search and DMCA takedown requests.
Do fans see my real name if I show my face?
No. Fans see your stage name. Only OnlyFans knows your real name and ID details, from verification.
Can I use an AI face?
Not if it is sold to fans as your real face. That is deception and runs into the platform's rules.
Where to go from here
Working without your face is possible, but it costs closeness and protects less than it promises. That's why we take the other route: show your face, protect your privacy. maevia works with English-speaking creators who live in Germany, Austria or Switzerland and write native-level English. If you want to take this on with a team that keeps your private data out and pursues leaks for you, apply now.
