This article is not a promise, it is a roadmap. It describes what to do in your first three months and which results are realistic. If you are not yet sure whether you want to start at all, read Before you start: 12 honest questions to ask yourself first.

Can you start an OnlyFans with no followers?

Yes, but it takes time, and at first you will earn very little. OnlyFans is not a platform where fans discover new creators. It works more like a checkout for interest you have built somewhere else. A study of adult content creators describes exactly that: because the platform delivers almost no reach, creators have to promote themselves on Instagram, Reddit, X or TikTok 3.

For context: according to the annual accounts of Fenix, the company behind OnlyFans, about $6.2 billion was paid out to just under 5.06 million creator accounts in the financial year ending November 30, 2025 1. By our math that is about $100 per account per month, inactive accounts included. A new account without reach usually sits below that in its first months. Starting with a big following makes it easier. The celebrity numbers in the headlines are not a benchmark.

What should you do in weeks 1 and 2?

In the first two weeks you lay the foundation: account, verification, money set aside, safety and profile. You post very little yet.

Account and verification. To verify, you upload a valid photo ID and a selfie holding that ID. The minimum age is 18. According to agency guides, the check can take up to 48 hours, and blurry photos are the most common reason for rejection 5. For payouts, OnlyFans asks for tax details. According to an agency page, creators outside the US fill in Form W-8BEN 5. Which form applies to you depends on where you are tax resident, and OnlyFans shows you what it needs when you set up payouts.

A separate identity. Create a dedicated email address for OnlyFans and secure it with two-factor authentication. That email is the master key to your account. Decide now whether you show your face, which stage name you use and whether you block certain regions. What actually protects you is covered in Privacy on OnlyFans.

Registration and money for taxes. What you have to register for tax and insurance purposes depends on the country you live in. In Germany, that means the tax office (Finanzamt), possibly a trade registration (Gewerbe) and your health insurer (Krankenkasse); a German tax adviser can tell you what applies 891021. In Austria and Switzerland the rules are different, so check with a local tax adviser there. Wherever you live, open a separate account for tax money before the first payout arrives, so the money for the tax office is there when you need it.

Note: This section is not tax or legal advice. Last checked: October 12, 2026.

Profile. A clear profile picture, a cover image, a short bio that tells fans what to expect, and one language you stick with. Your profile should attract the right fans, not give everything away. What is visible for free must not offer more than the paid area.

Boundaries. Write down what you show, what you might show later and what you will never show. You will need this list by month 2 at the latest, when the first special requests arrive.

What matters in month 1?

Month one is about two things: a stash of content and one traffic channel you can keep up. Expect very few subscribers, or none, this month.

A content stash before launch. An empty profile makes new fans cancel right away. Every source gives a different answer on how big the stash should be: one tool vendor recommends 5 to 10 starter posts plus a pinned welcome post 7, one agency says 30 posts 5. There is no solid data on this. A good middle ground is enough for two to four weeks, so you do not have to produce under pressure every day. That is experience too, not a study.

One or two traffic channels. The platforms differ a lot in rules, effort and impact:

Which channel fits you depends on your content and your time. You will find an overview in Which traffic source fits you?. Stay away from bought accounts, vote boosting, engagement groups or backup accounts after a ban. They break platform rules and can cost you everything you have built.

A realistic expectation for month 1. There are no independent numbers. One chat-service provider estimates 2 to 15 subscribers after 30 days for TikTok without a viral video, with the first subscribers after four to six weeks 16. A German agency puts Reddit at roughly 5 to 50 new subscribers a month in the first three months, as experience from forums 14. Both have a stake in the answer and neither is a measurement. But they show the direction: at the start you are looking at single digits or low double digits.

How do you get your first OnlyFans subscribers in months 2 and 3?

In the second and third months you find a rhythm you can sustain, review your numbers honestly for the first time, and double down on the channel that brings subscribers. One vendor says six to eight weeks until a channel delivers stable results, and three to six months for a reliable channel 15.

Rhythm, not nonstop output. Set fixed times: when you produce, when you post, when you answer messages and when you are off. Several creators describe messages as their biggest time sink. One former creator reported at least two hours a day 19. A set time window for messages protects you.

Where the money comes from. On OnlyFans, revenue no longer depends on the subscription. According to the Fenix accounts, only 27% of platform revenue in the 2025 financial year came from subscriptions, 73% from messages, pay-per-view (paid, locked content) and tips 1. For you, this means a small, active fan base can bring in more than lots of silent subscribers. How that works is in What is PPV on OnlyFans?. A warm first message matters here too; see our OnlyFans welcome message templates.

What to review. Use a separate tracking link for each channel so you can see where subscribers come from. Then look at:

A cautionary example from a vendor blog: an account with 22,000 followers and Reels with tens of thousands of views brought in only three subscribers, because there was no clear path to subscribing and no tracking. Reach alone is not revenue.

Review your prices. After two months you have your first data to rethink subscription and PPV prices. Careful: if you raise your subscription price, existing subscriptions do not automatically renew at the new price, according to the OnlyFans Terms of Service 2. More in OnlyFans pricing.

How long does it take to make money on OnlyFans?

First income often arrives after a few weeks; a reliable income usually takes several months, if it comes at all. The ranges going around come almost entirely from agencies and tool vendors 1516. Plan conservatively and keep a financial cushion.

When should you change course after 90 days?

After three months you know enough to make a deliberate decision: keep going, change course or take a break. None of these options is a failure.

Checklist: your first 90 days at a glance

Phase Tasks Realistic expectation
Weeks 1–2 Dedicated email with 2FA, verification, check tax and insurance registration with a tax adviser in your country, open a tax-reserve account, write down your boundaries, set up your profile No income yet. The goal is a clean foundation.
Month 1 Content stash for 2–4 weeks, welcome post, start 1–2 traffic channels, read each platform's rules, set up tracking links Few or no subscribers. According to vendor estimates, often the first subscribers after 4–6 weeks.
Month 2 Fixed weekly rhythm, time window for messages, first PPV offers, compare channels using tracking Single-digit to low double-digit new subscribers a month is normal.
Month 3 Review: where subscribers come from, renewals, spend per fan, hours per week, check prices, make a decision One channel shows first signs of stability, or it does not. Both are valuable information.

Frequently asked questions

All answers as a list
How long does it take to make money on OnlyFans?

First income often arrives after a few weeks; a reliable income usually only after several months, if at all. The ranges that circulate almost all come from agencies and tool vendors. Plan conservatively and build in a financial cushion.

How many posts do I need before launch?

There is no proven number. Recommendations range from 5 to 10 starter posts up to 30 posts. More important than the exact number is that new fans find something on their first visit and that you do not have to produce under pressure every day.

When do I get my first payout?

According to vendor guides, there is a holding period of about 7 days per payment and a minimum payout, often quoted as $20. The Terms of Service do not state a specific amount. Everything is settled in US dollars, and you carry conversion and bank fees.

Should I start with a free or a paid profile?

Both have pros and cons. A paid profile brings more predictable income, a free one more reach but revenue that swings more. There is no independent data comparing the two.

Do I need an agency at the start?

No. You can do many of the tasks in the first 90 days yourself, and you get to know your own business along the way. An agency can help when time, know-how or energy run short. If so, check exactly what it costs and who does what with your account.
